This past weekend hosted the 5th Annual Hanging Judge event at GS Hobby in Barling, Arkansas. The facility hosts arguably one of the most impressive race-inspired hobby shops in the midwest (perhaps the country), and is accompanied by a very unique race track to say the least.

The GS Hobby track is made up of the stickiest Arkansas clay around, and traction levels rival that of even some carpet track surfaces. Car setup was crucial for the high-grip surface, but mentally their was a bigger (or smaller) challenge to overcome. The GSHobby track was fast, flowing, and had lap-times as low as 6.5 seconds. One crash could potentially put you down a lap, or a few hero laps could put you laps ahead of the field. In those 6-7 second laps, there was virtually no where to relax, breathe, or calm yourself - it was all out INTENSITY every time your car hit the track.

This year's event saw a record turnout, which included many of the regions top drivers, as well as TLR/JConcepts' JR Mitch and multi-time World Champion Jared Tebo.

Jared Tebo put his Kyosho rides on top in the Mod 2wd and 4wd buggy classes, taking TQ and the overall A-Main wins in both, but not without a bit of pressure from JR Mitch. JR would finish second to Tebo in both 2wd and 4wd buggy classes, and capture a TQ and win of his own in Mod 2wd Short Course.

Mod Stadium Truck belonged to young gun "Fast Zach" who finished first only 1-second ahead of local TLR hotshoe Mike Harrington. Kyosho's Braxten Culley would finish out the podium in third.

The Pro Stock Buggy class was dominated by JConcepts/Schuur Speed's Cole Henriksen, who would take TQ and the overall win. Equally as impressive was Henriksen's 3rd overall and Round 4 TQ (with the absence of Tebo) in Mod 2wd buggy using his 17.5 powered Team Associated B6. Mike Harrington would take second overall in Pro Stock, with "Fast Zach" once again grabbing a podium spot in third.

The event included a fantastic racer raffle in which racers were given the opportunity to win everything from battery packs, to shock oil, car kits, and everything in between. Race director, Chris Jones, was the lucky winner of the TLR 22T 3.0 truck kit, but chose to award the winner of the Novice class qualifier for Round 3 the truck as a special prize.

A special thank you goes out to everyone at GS Hobby, Bryon Shumate, Chris Jones, JR Mitch, and ALL of the racers who for such welcoming hospitality and great racing. A special thank you is also in order to all of the local racers including Phaxay, Cruz, and Dustin Swigart for their heavy lifting to get me on and off of the driver's stand.

Some people know Arkansas for it's beautiful landscape or delicious sweet tea, but for me Arkansas is known for one thing - R/C car racing!
