HobbyPLEX Race Report:

The first ever Novak Eleventh Hour Off-road Enduro took place May 5, 2013 at the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex in Omaha, NE. Seven teams of three and four drivers grinded through eleven straight hours of racing.

The doors opened at 7am for a short practice session. Racing started at 8:30. A random drawing set the grid. The usual carnage at the tone was replaced with caution as all teams focused on saving their gear for the long day. Remarkably, most teams encountered very few issues. Positions changed often and the race stayed relatively close. In fact, at the seven hour mark, second and third were within three seconds of one another.

Some early breaks from the other six teams allowed “Talking Fish RC,” driven by TLR driver Alex Sturgeon and HobbyPlex locals Joel Briggs and Cole Henricksen, to protect a 30 lap lead for most of the day. With about an hour left to go and a 50 lap lead, “Talking Fish RC” finally broke a part and gave new life to the race. They were able to fix their car in a matter of minutes and set out to crash the 1400 lap barrier. With two minutes left to go they ran out of battery and watched the rest of the field cross the line under their own power.

“Talking Fish RC” logged in 1394 laps in first, “All Shake and No Bake”, driven by HobbyPlex locals Don Drozd, Rob Turner, Brian Valles and Jim Morgan, crossed the line second with 1358 laps, and “Team Reverse Oreo,” driven by Kyosho driver Dillan Voelker, and HobbyPlex locals Jay Fairchild and Chris Cattlett managed 1326 laps for third.

“Talking Fish RC” used Alex Sturgeon’s bone stock TLR 22 with a Novak Pulse ESC and Ballistic 13.5 motor geared 27/76 and Thunder Power 6000mah 65c batteries. Throttle EPA was set to 60 percent. They averaged 40-minute run times with ESC and motor temps never getting over 100 degrees all day.

Big thanks to Novak, TLR, and all the participants!
