"The Drake" triples up at the 2013 Southern Nationals

 

The 2013 Southern Nationals and R/C Expo took place this past weekend at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, LA. The event was a huge success with over 300 entries. Three rounds of qualifying were run on Saturday, followed by lower nitro mains and the first round of electric mains. The remaining two rounds of electric mains and upper nitro mains were run on Sunday.
 
Adam Drake had a mechanical issue in the first round of nitro buggy, but tq'ed round two and three to take the top qualifying honors in 1/8th nitro buggy. At the start of the 45 minute nitro buggy final, Drake was hit and sent to the rear of the field. Drake was able to quickly move his way back to the front and had a good battle with Taylor Peterson and Ryan Lutz before taking control of the race and settling into a comfortable lead. Drake took the victory followed by Lutz and Peterson. Adam used Nova Rossi's Keep Off 4 engine to power his TLR 8ight 3.0 and Pro-Line Holeshots for qualifying and Blockades for the final.
 
In the 1/8th truck class Drake TQ'ed all three rounds of qualifying with his Nova Rossi powered 8ight T 2.0 and won the 30 minute final by a large margin over Cody Smith and Cole Ogden. Adam used Pro-Line Holeshots for qualifying and Blockades for the final.
 
Drake started second electric buggy for the three finals. Drake finished second to Ryan Lutz in A1, but went on to take the overall victory by winning A2 and A3 with his Tekin powered TLR 8ight E 3.0.
 
Jimmy Vanderhaar won sportsman electric buggy class with his Team Losi Racing 8ight E 3.0 buggy and Pro-Line tires. Bubba Johnson won sportsman nitro buggy with his Team Losi Racing 8ight 3.0. James Green took 3rd in open nitro truggy with his Team Losi Racing 8ight T 2.0.
