The "RC Skool" hosts it first race in front of a full student audience in Turkey

 

A few weeks back we received word of a very unique project titled "RC Skool" from our friend Tom How in Turkey. The program allows students of the Fen Bilimleri school to participate in R/C car racing. The RC Skool held their first race last week in front of the entire student body!
 

 
 

Tom says, "The whole day was enjoyed by the rest of the school students who had no lessons all afternoon, they had a great show of cars for people to see and also some demo driving by some outside drivers. The students had a hard job as they had never raced a real track before, and we could only give them a small practice the day before for 10 mins.

Despite the lack of experience I must say they all coped very well with no cars breaking, they all had smiles, but some did have electrical problems with the cars which we are trying to remedy.

All the school students and staff had a great day, this was the first that many had even seen this kind of racing so they were amazed, and they all cheered very loudly for their school mates racing. The win went to Ahmet Öztürk!"
 
 
After the race Ahmet said, "My first race day was a unique experience for me. I was so scared with this situation because I am not training at the club, I am on the handball training, so I could only drive my car at home. Because of this I thought I would be slower than the other drivers and come last. When I started to race my fear was gone and the excitement came instead.

I drove the car and concentrated so much I did not hear that the race had finished. When Tom How came to me and said "Ahmet the race has finished you need to stop".

I finished the race 1st in the first practice and then on to the qualifying round, I finished the race 2nd which was good enough for the A-Final. In the A-Final I just concentrated on my driving and keeping out of trouble, when I crossed the finish line I was 1st and so happy. I can't wait for the next race. I would like to thank Tom How and Serdar Aytemiz for their help and advice."
