The two-day 2014 Hot Rod Hobbies Shootout culminated in another long day under the SoCal sun, with 14 classes running triple A-Mains contributing to the 93 races that ran on Sunday. And while the racing was close, it wasn't that close - as the Top Qualifier in all four premier divisions went on to win the overall title, with all but one wrapped up after the first two legs of the final.

Modified 2WD Buggy

Despite heavy pressure from Ty Tessmann in both A1 and A2, reigning IFMAR 2WD World Champion Jared Tebo won both tone-to-tone and secured the biggest championship of the weekend in convincing fashion. Similarly, Tessmann had no trouble in A3 as he scampered away from the field in Tebo's absence for the round win, but the final step on the podium was decided as Ryan Cavalieri finished far enough ahead of Drew Moller to tip the tiebreaker in his favor.

1. Jared Tebo - 100/100/91 = 200
2. Ty Tessmann - 99/99/100 = 199

10. Cody Turner - 91/91/92 = 183

Modified 4WD Buggy

Dustin Evans passed Ty Tessmann to start off the first A-Main and looked poised to hold on for the upset, until a crash around the four-minute mark let Tessmann squeak back into the lead. In A2, Evans had a disastrous start and dropped all the way back to ninth before working through the field to finish third behind Tessmann, who wrapped up the title comfortably ahead of the field, and Ryan Cavalieri. With Tessmann sitting out A3, Evans led Cavalieri for about four minutes until the former IFMAR World Champion stuck a pass on Evans and sped off for the round win.

Pro 2 Short Course

Jared Tebo won the first final going away, while fourth qualifier Dustin Evans capitalized on mistakes by Cody Turner and Ryan Cavalieri to move up to second by race end. Cavalieri hung with Tebo until the closing laps of A2 and took advantage of the leader's mistake, holding on for the win and forcing the championship to be decided in A3. The final main event was all Tebo, however, as the TQ drove away for the win by nearly four seconds to earn his second championship of the day.

Modified Stadium Truck

After setting the fastest time in all three rounds of qualifying, there was little surprise about Ryan Cavalieri driving his Centro CT4.2-converted mid-motor Team Associated truck to the A1 and A2 wins ahead to wrap up the title. Jared Tebo crashed on lap two of the first A-main, dropping down to fifth, and couldn't catch up to Billy Fischer once making his way through the field and had to settle for third. In A2, however, Tebo held his position after a short battle with Fischer to finish behind Cavalieri, and then won A3 in Cavalieri's absence to earn second overall.

1/8-Scale Electric Buggy

Six drivers competed in 1/8-Scale Electric Buggy, and although David Jenson started in the second position he wasted no time in taking the title by winning the first two main events ahead of TQ Barry Baker. Jenson took the lead from Baker on the second lap of A1 and sped off for the win, while another mistake by Baker later in the race dropped him to third behind Tekno RC's Rudy Rico. In A2, Baker led for over four minutes before making a small mistake - and that's all Jenson needed to get by. Baker won A3 ahead of TLR's Ryan Dunford to solidify the podium results.

Pro 4 Short Course

A field of just four trucks competed in Pro 4 short course, and TQ David Jenson beat them mercilessly by winning both A1 and A2 wire-to-wire to take the title ahead of Rudy Rico and Ryan Dunford.
