Over this past Memorial Day Weekend we sat back, relaxed, and enjoyed the summertime weather. While enjoying the weather and a fresh glass of sweet tea we got a chance to catch up with our ol' pal Charlie Suangka. We convinced him to put down the hotdog long enough for at least a few questions.

Naturally when we think Suangka we think Novak, so that's where the conversation headed!

LRC: Charlie, we recently featured the release of the Impact ESC on LiveRC and will be doing a product test of it soon. What is the overall feedback so far from customers of the new Impact?

Charlie: The release of the “Impact” ESC has been very well received, and I am personally looking forward to the “Super Tuner” menu system getting into the hands of our customers and racers!

LRC: Can you tell us a little more about the "Super Tuner" system?

Charlie:  I have always enjoyed simply being able to have the manual handy, and having full tune-ability available. You can download the manual to most phones these days!  Now that the most of the team and racer’s I’ve been working with, have sort of been through the gambit of PC, Little Black Box’s, or what ever magical ESC device, the on board programming and knowing your lights is becoming a very positive aspect of our product.

I think that RC is pretty complex, and no matter what form of Electronics you try go with, there is some level of a learning curve.  I think with full on board programming, you are more self sustained.  No extra stuff to have or need or learn how to use.  Most of the tracks had a PC guy, or a ESC Guru that setup everyone’s ESCs, or was the "help desk" so to speak.  That is always the case with some of the more technical aspects of any racing world. Most of our guys tend to know their ESC “easily” and use it to its potential with basic racer know-how. Super Tuner firmware opens up the tuning options, while simplifying the light combinations.  Much easier to follow the order, and know what settings you’re looking for.   Not relying on anything but yourself, and the LEDs on the ESC is handy most every-time I’m at the track and someone needs a trackside adjustment, or even a simple reset in the pits.

LRC: With all of the new releases and "Super Tuner" system, we would imagine Novak is pretty excited for the 2012 ROAR Offroad Super Nats at West Coast?

Charlie: We’re very excited for the upcoming Roar Nationals that will be happening at West Coast RC in August! This is practically our back yard! Myself, and our Tech Department Guru, and Brent Newman will attending, racing and assisting anyone with Novak questions or racer needs.  Like any race we attend, we’ll have full service for any and all Novak customers that need assistance with tuning and or product service and maintenance.  Full service racer support is out main focus at the major events.

Having the knowledge pool of our entire team, and all our racers can make the a huge difference for a racer. Most of our factory offroad team will be making the trek out for the “Super Nats”.  I’m looking forward to the momentum the team has had with Xdrive continuing, and us perhaps helping a few drivers claim some National Championships!

LRC: Any word on the Novak 1/8 scale ESC?

Charlie: The Activ8 ESC is on the verge of shipping, a few last minute delays with parts held us up, but everything looks to be in place for shipping soon!  The 4xSCT guys have all been very anxious to bolt a “bigger badder” ESC into their rigs, and early tests have shown nothing but good things from this.  I’m personally not a huge fan of running 8th scale ESC’s in the 4x4 SCT, but the results sort of speak for themselves.  Power is Power. The bigger ESC simply stays cooler longer, and runs stronger longer.  The added weight is overcome by the added performance.  Also, no fan is needed.  So it’s one less mechanical item to worry about being damaged in the rough and tumble world of SCT racing!

LRC: We keep hearing and seeing more and more Novak "club racing" systems. What exactly are these?

Charlie: We’ve gotten tons of great feedback from our racing customers in the club racing world.  Our new $120 club racing “system” has been received with open arms, and great results.  The Novak Club ESC is based on our Edge, just a no settings, a one mode ESC.  Not timing, no tuning, just racing.  Comes with a Novak Club 17.5turn, or 25.5turn motor, and like all Novak systems is 100% pure sensor based for unmatched response and performance.  The perfect system to go club racing with at an amazing price!

LRC: So Charlie tell us more about the...Charlie? Charlie? Where did he go?

It occured to us that Charlie had disappeared. We can only assume he was probably out taking his pet pony for a summer afternoon ride...we'll let you know when he returns.
