Yesterday evening we received news that Trinity has plans to be a primary sponsor of the upcoming ROAR Paved Onroad Nationals. While Trinity has been a sponsor of many major events in the past, the primary sponsorship of a ROAR event has raised some questions considering the recent conflict between the two.

We contacted Trinity CEO, Ernie Provetti, to help clear the air of rumors and questions regarding the upcoming event sponsorship and the current situation of the ongoing conflict, and lawsuit, between Trinity and ROAR.

LiveRC: Thanks for taking some time today Ernie, first and foremost does your sponsorship of the nationals mean that you and ROAR have come to some sort of agreement?

Ernie: No it has absolutely nothing to do with that

LiveRC: Is there a specific reason behind sponsoring this ROAR event?

Ernie: First let me say that my opinions of how ROAR runs their organization and my dissatisfaction with "some" not all ways they conduct their business has absolutely nothing to do with "promoting R/C racing". I have been doing this for over 30 years sponsoring some of the largest events ever held in the USA....ROAR Nationals, IFMAR World Championships, US Indoor Championships in Cleveland, and of course the grand-daddy of them all "Mike Boylan's Snowbird Nationals" all in the capacity of the Primary Sponsor.

So my basic reason for sponsoring the event is twofold: First and foremost as I discussed "to promote R/C racing and the R/C community" (ROAR being associated with it will not deter me from my responsibility as a manufacturer to support his customer base. Secondly I am a Floridian now for over 6 years and when major events are held in my state I always want to answer the call. The state of Florida has embraced me and I have many supporters (and critics too lol) that have been here for me.

LiveRC: If there is not an agreement of some sort by this event, what will Trinity team drivers be using for motors?

Ernie: Trinity drivers will be using the D3.5 in 13.5 class and the Modified Class. For the 17.5 spec class, probably the same Revtech Motor that won both spec classes at the recent indoor ROAR National Championships in Horsham, Pa a few weeks ago.

LiveRC: In your opinion, where does the conflict stand as of now?

Ernie: I can't comment on the lawsuit other than it is extensive and far reaching in many different areas outside of a wire gauge "supposedly" being larger than 1/2 of a hair follicle with a rule that has "no maximum diameter"

LiveRC: What are your plans for the D3.5 17.5 if it is approved and/or disapproved?

Ernie: Again I cannot comment on that.

The ROAR Paved Onroad Nationals are scheduled to be held at Village Raceway on May 2-5, 2013. With just over a month before the event, the news of Trinity's sponsorship has come as a surprise to many. ROAR does not handle the sponsorship of events, but instead the host facility takes that responsibility. Therefore, Trinity is not directly sponsoring ROAR, but instead the overall event and facility. Despite the conflict between them, they are both working in their own ways to provide the racers at this years Paved Onroad Nationals the best possible for the event.
