It took just two races to run into controversy, as Jared Tebo was disqualified for cutting illegal vents to the side pod of his body. IFMAR held an official international jury meeting to determine the ruling on Jared Tebo's protest, and in the end IFMAR decided to allow Tebo's time to stand and simply issue an official warning; warnings matter because receiving three of them leads to an immediate disqualification from the event.

Tebo ran the body in practice after consulting with IFMAR President Dallas Mathiesen - however, the car was deemed outside of the rules which state no additional holes may added to the body. It was that difference in judgement in particular that led to the DQ being rescinded.

IFMAR committee member Paul King stepped into LiveRC's TLR Broadcast Studio to explain the ruling:

"I think the warning is fair," said Jared after finding out that his run would stand. "A rule is a rule, and there was just some miscommunication." He will not have to install a new body shell in order to continue in the event. Instead, he simply needed to seal the holes using tape.

The ruling also affected Atsushi Kawamoto, who was disqualified from his run in the following heat for the same infraction.

"I cut the hole to try to cool the header pipe, but I didn't know about the rule," said Kawamoto, who will tape up his body vent as well. The Japanese driver felt the ruling was fair.
